Dashing through the snow, Yay!!!!!

It's a gloomy rainy day here in northern Illinois

Dashing by Birds of a Feather

stitched on 32ct Iced Cappucino w/WDW

I changed the color of the boys overalls, I didn't care to dress him in pink, so I found a blue that looks alot better on him

Here's my attempt to rust bells and pins

for December Word Play by Brenda Gervais or any other finish

I put them in bleach for 2 days then cider vinegar and salt for 2 days. I put them in the sun with what little we had. They were still shiney, what the heck!!!! So then I put them back in cider vinegar and salt for another day and put them on a paper towel as they dried they rusted a little. Ebay! here I come, lol

I took advice and looked for cheaper ones at the dollar store, no luck finding bells.

Does anyone know what their new start will be for New Years day?

I ususally have something picked out and kitted already, but not this year. I have no clue what I want to start. I looked through my stash and nothing calls my name. Are there any SALs?

Happy Stitching!!!!

Last year I went in search of rusted bells. No luck. One shop owner told me people make their own. Hmmm. So, online I went. Sadly, every review had similar results as you. On someone's blog, recently, I saw they gave things an antigue look by painting on modge podge then sprinkling them with cinnamon and nutmeg. It's an idea worth trying on one bell or pin. Not a huge investment.

Cute finish and love the bell idea. I have to admire your spirit for what you want to start New Year's Day.....I am still gathering my WIP's to list to work on in 2012 and haven't dared to think of a new project yet.

What a fun finish! I love the expressions in this piece! I've never tried rusting things. Hope you find some!

Dashing is wonderful! Congratulations on your finish. I am determined to start this before the year ends.

There is a French SAL that I know of. It's a mystery so I don't know what the pattern is, and you have to register on the forum to participate. If you are interested just translate the page - it's easy to understand. Here's a link -

Cute finish! Good job on the rusty bells:)))

Are you coming to Inspired Needle next Sunday (the 11th)?? I hope so.

Barb, Linda, Jayne and I are going to start My Story by Jeannete Douglas on 1/1/12. We'd love for you to join us!

Very cute finish! He was charted in pink, for real?? That just doesn't seem right. I am doing the LHN Cottages SAL, but don't think those are your type of charts. I just got the last 3 LK Fatmen I'd like to start soon, or an Alessandra Adelaide Christmas tree I'm going to do in black and silver for my black bathroom for next Christmas! I have to buy material for both before I can start. And I have no LNS to browse anymore!

Great finish, Ranae! It is so festive. Funny, I bought some bells, too, and I will try to make them rust. I'll let you know how they come out. BTW, I think your bells look great!

Yay you! I love that design and your stitching looks great. Don't laugh - my New Year start will be Lizzie Kate's Halloween Rules. :o)

A beautiful finish and I like the one in your header photo too!

I'll be watching to see the rusted bells outcome. I would like to do some too.

I started something new this week, but haven't even blogged about it yet.

Still trying to decide if I want to do the 2012 CJC. I have a working list, but not kitted up. We'll see.

Love the finish! I swear someone did a rusting tutorial but I can't remember who!

I have my projects picked for next year. I plan on starting Mirabilia Fairy Moon on New Year's Day. It might get started on NYE if I don't have plans. :)

Oh, that's a great new finish. I love this design with its funny and cute details.

That's a lovely finish, congratulations!
Maybe the bells would rust faster if you roughed the surface up with a little sandpaper first?

Congrats on the finish! It looks great! I don't think I would put the boy in pink either.
My New Year's start is going to be Witches Hollow by The Primitive Needle. I just bought the pattern and am getting ready to order the rest to have it kitted and ready to go!
I first saw it on your blog, thank you!

That is such a cute finish!! Oh my gosh, how I love BOAF. Too cute. I think your bells & pins turned out quite nicely--you're too hard on yourself!

New Year's Day start... I'm still mulling it over. I'm thinking I might go with Amy Mitten's Sarah Verrier (think that's the name of it) because it has the Lord's Prayer and I thought that if 2012 is anything like 2010 and 2011, I could use all the prayers going forward! LOL

What a happy finish, Ranae--just love it :) The blue change on the overalls is definitely a plus!!

Let me know if you find a good source of rusty bells--I hope to do the Wordplay series in 2012 so I'll be needing some myself...

Ranae,
You always do such great projects. I'm sure whatever you chose, I'll want to do it too!!! As Brenda said, we're starting the My Story piece. As far as rusty anything, I broke down and bought mine online. If you're interested, let me know and I'll give you the site.

Cute finish Ranae!

I think Country Stitches do rusted bells but not sure. Oooh The Primitive Hare do them too http://theprimitivehare.blogspot.com/

I'm starting Kelmscott Designs Miniature Monogram Hornbook-Margin Marker on New Years Day. Just something small that I can finish quickly!

Great finish! I agree, the blue was a good choice.

Love your two Birds of a Feather Designs, particularly the banner photo. I'm thinking of doing my variation on the CJC: 16 days of WIPs and 15 days of new starts. First new start on January 1: the new Blackbird Designs Christmas sampler.

I can't rust bells, but I can rust a car!

It turned out great! Good luck on rusting those bells.

I just started Christmas Village Sampler from Prairie Schooler, I might kit up another Loose Feather design and dig out a Shepherd's Bush kit to start around the New Years.

Love your new finish!!! It was a good try with rusting the bells! I'm not sure what I'm going to do for the new year - a new start on Jan 1 for sure though!

Adorable finish! I agree, blue overalls look much better ;o)

I think I'm starting the LK Halloween Rules SAL and possibly the 6 Fat Men too.

I love your BOAF finish! Great idea changing the boys overalls to a more boyish color, pink doesn't seem quite right. I love these BOAF designs, too bad most of them are OOP and unavailable, I have a few and treasure them.

Cute finish!!

That rusting thing only seems to work some of the time. Wish I knew what it is that mucks it up sometimes.

LOVE your BOAF finish Ranae - I collected a lot of their charts over the years but I can't seem to find a single one - I think my goal in the new year should be to get my XS stuff in order. A new start for NYD - you betcha ! just not exactly sure what. I usually start a big sampler and promptly run off the track around march or april LOL Enjoy the season! Melody

Ranae, did you know that Birds of a Feather is designing for Needlepoint???? I knew there designs looked famaliar. I do a lot of needlepoint when the urge hits!!! There are four shops that only carry needlepoint on the north shore. Email me if you would like to contact them. They have books of all their designs that you can page thru. Keep stitching!
